We finish the year (according to the Tibetan calendar) by doing these prayers to clear away obstacles so we begin the new year afresh.

Prayers are traditionally offered to the Dharma Protector Mahakala before each Tibetan New Year begins. This intensive 5 day practice is aimed at clearing away any obstacles remaining from the old year so that the New Year will bring peace and harmony and abundance both on a personal level and to the world in general. It is an effective way of letting go of negativity of body, speech and mind for the year ahead.

The text which we use is long and has not been transposed into English phonetics so we regret it is available only to those who read Tibetan script fluently. But everyone is welcome to come and meditate or quietly recite mantras during the sessions if they wish.

The prayers begin at 8am each day and finish around 6pm.

There is no fee for attending these prayers although donations are welcome. Your offering will help with the Monastery's considerable running costs.  Donations may be made in the Reception Office in Samye Ling.
