Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation
― Audre Lorde
Often times, when difficulties occur, or life’s curve balls are coming fast and furious, our psychological balance can become one- sided, maybe even dipping into overwhelm. It can feel as if everything is going wrong, or that we are engaged in an uphill battle.
However, if we are able to attend to ourselves with what Jon Kabat Zinn calls an ‘open-hearted, non-reactive attending to’ through self-care, self- compassion and actively tapping into the ‘good’ all around us, we may be able to reclaim our balance and level the field.
So how can we ensure that we are nurturing our self-compassionate selves? How do we develop the capacity to do so? How can we build the resources for resiliency? How can we attend to our needs with an open heart?
This five retreat for mindfulness practitioners will explore these big questions through various self- compassion and kindness practices that encourage gentle reflection and a move towards engaging our soothing system as a direct antidote to stress, difficult emotions and moments of overwhelm. In this way, we have the potential to build our own inner resources so that we may become more resilient in times of difficulty.
This retreat will be experiential and based in practices which facilitate a turn towards loving kindness or a basic friendliness towards ourselves, the people all around us and the environments in which we live in. We will explore loving kindness as a springboard into self- care through self compassion, noticing and taking in peace and creating spaces that are safe and nourishing. We will also explore silence as a practice and as a means of rejuvenation.
This retreat will be held in Samye Ling and be led by Rosina Morrison and Alan Hughes and fulfils the requirements for an annual 5-day teacher led retreat, as required by the Good Practice Guidelines of the UK Listing of Mindfulness Teachers. In the second half of the retreat, visiting MA tutors will be dropping by to deliver practices and teaching sessions. The retreat begins at 19.00pm on Friday 22nd February 2019 and ends at 15.30pm on Wednesday 27th February 2019.
This five day retreat is £200.00 for all MA Members, please book via the Memberships Priority booking page. If you are attending the CPD weekend ‘The Compassionate Warrior’ with Fay Adams and Annick Nevejan (22nd-24th February 2019) you can join the retreat from Sunday afternoon till Wednesday afternoon for £50.00.
