The Mindfulness Based Living Course for Young Adults (MBLC-YA) is a mindfulness and self-compassion course for 11-18 year-olds that is delivered over 10 sessions usually at a rate of one per week, each session lasting from 40 minutes to one hour. Each session explores themes such as ‘Your amazing mind’ (which looks at the developing adolescent brain with its different trajectories of emotional development and development of executive function and explains that our brains are hardwired for survival rather than happiness, so these tricky minds are ‘not our fault’), ‘Staying present’ (learning to settle the mind a little and ground awareness in the body), ‘Dropping anchor’ into the present moment (using the support of breath, body or sound), distraction, attitude, appreciation, and what it might mean to live a mindful life – one that is in alignment with what we value.
This retreat is a 5-day teaching skills retreat to enable participants to confidently deliver the MBLC-YA. The retreat consists of live delivery of the full MBLC-YA curriculum in order that participants may experience the full lessons in the manner that they would be delivered in a classroom or elsewhere, and affords participants the opportunity to practise delivering session extracts in a safe and encouraging environment. The retreat counts as an annual 5-day retreat for CPD purposes.
For those who are already teaching adults, but not young people, the training will also highlight the differences to be aware of when working with adolescents. This retreat is open to those who have completed Teaching Level One (Introductory Teaching Skills), including those not already working in schools.
Times: The retreat starts at 7pm on Friday 26th July 2019 and ends after lunch on Wednesday 31st July 2019
Cost: £430.00 including manual. If you cancel this retreat less than eight weeks before the start date your retreat fee will not be refunded. However it may be possible to transfer to a subsequent retreat for an administrative fee of £100.00
