MEDITATION IN THE WORKPLACE
Gelong Thubten is a
monk of 16 years' experience, who teaches meditation and specializes in
providing training for businesses and organizations.
Thubten
teaches meditation and relaxation techniques for overcoming stress as
well as to focus and sharpen the mind in order to enhance working
practices.
The popular term 'stress management' can be limited, in that it suggests coping rather than conquering. People often use external supports to manage their stress. These usually prove to be limited, in that one depends on the presence of those supports in order to achieve a sense of calm. Meditation, on the other hand, directly accesses the attitudes in our mind which lead to stress, and by de-activating those negative reactions, we can learn to overcome stress from the root. Furthermore, training programs at work often focus on developing new ways of thinking, more effective attitudes, working ethos and interaction with colleagues and clients. These changes are often difficult to implement, due to our stress, forgetfulness and distraction. Meditation training enhances our ability to be present, undistracted and focused. In this state we can more easily remember and implement our working practices.
This
type of practice can be applied by people regardless of religious
orientation; it is a psychological tool with a wealth of medical
evidence to prove its efficacy.
Thubten has worked with major UK
companies, including one of the world's largest management
consultancies, as well as accountancy and legal firms. He has also
worked with council departments, prisons, schools and hospitals.
Thubten recently furthered his training by participating in Samye
Ling's fourth cloistered 4-year retreat.
Thubten is available
for lectures, workshops, ongoing courses and private individual
consultations. Companies often ask Thubten to speak at their
conferences and meetings.
All proceeds from Gelong Thubtens's
work are donated to The Rokpa Trust for our charitable projects.
Thubten is currently working to raise funds for a new intake for the
four year retreat, due to start next year, and all proceeds from his
courses are being used for this project.
