Samye College - Project Update 30th July 2010
The walls were completed last month. This month has seen the completion of the copper roof over the staircase building on the flat roof, and the roof timber structures are growing.
The finished roof will have total of 1000 square metres of copper layed on 7700 linear metres of sarking boards and 250 metres of sheet metal gutters - all to be built by November. So we have plenty to do!
Current work includes fitting rafters to the two main pitched roofs and to the Audio Visual Department roof. We have recently cut an additional seven holes in the concrete floor for extra rooflights. Lama Thubten has almost completed carving decorations across the top of the front elevation central section of the building.
The railings for the parapet walls are being manufactured and will be fitted over the coming weeks.
We have joiners, copper roofers, general construction workers, steelwork fabricators, carvers and scaffolders engaged at work both on and off site. A total of 10 to 16 people are on site every weekday. There is a roughly equal mix of professional contractors and volunteers.
