Short-Term Retreats at Kagyu Samye Ling

Those wishing to spend some time in intensive retreat can choose a period of as little as one week up to as long as one year, depending on how much time they have. It is recommended that prospective retreatants, especially those intending to spend a longer time in retreat, consult Abbot and Retreat Master, Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche before making the final decision to start.

Women can make short retreats in the Nuns' House at Purelands Retreat Centre, which is a ten minute walk from Samye Ling. Depending on availability, it is also possible for both men and women to use a room in Samye Ling itself for a period of retreat. All main meals are served at Samye Ling, though women may take breakfast at Purelands.

Overall responsibility lies with Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche, and there are also senior monks and nuns who have already completed several years of retreat who are usually available for general support and advice, if required. In general, however, it is recommended that retreatants seek adequate instruction before beginning their retreat. Individual practitioners are free to make a daily programme according to their own needs.
