The Garden Studio


Self-catering garden studio (from February to November inclusive)

The Garden Studio at Shaw House is mainly suitable for a single person though there is a guest bed underneath that pulls out to provide a second bed. The house is situated 2 miles north of Samye Ling at Davington and is situated off the main road next to the Observatory (British Geological Survey).


The studio comprises a bedroom, a small fully equipped kitchenette, and a bathroom comprising a shower, hand basin and toilet. The studio is self-contained, has its own entrance and is for non-smokers on the premises. All the bedding, towels, heating and hot water are included in the price – valid until December 2026 For one person staying the cost is £45 night, for 2 people staying, the cost is £65 / night.


The accommodation is self-catering with small oven, double hotplate, microwave, refrigerator and some basic items provided on arrival such as tea, coffee, sugar, toilet paper and washing up liquid.


There is wifi internet available. The nearest shops are in Lockerbie or Langholm so if you plan to cook, you may need to bring some provisions with you. Please bring indoor footwear in order to maintain a clean carpet. 

Directions to Shaw House are as follows: Coming from Lockerbie on the B723, as you come down the steep hill, turn left at the ‘T’ junction at the former Eskdalemuir Church on to the B709 north through the village of Eskdalemuir and past Samye Ling. About 2 miles after Samye Ling is Davington village (3 houses) and cross over a narrow bridge suitable only for single file traffic. 200yards on there are signs on the left bank for Eskdalemuir Observatory and British Geological Survey; 20 yards further on is a tarmac hill to the left that leads up to the Observatory where 3 houses are situated before the main gates
to the Observatory. I am the first of the semi- detached houses: Shaw House.

Directions from Langholm: proceed on the B709 northwards through Eskdalemuir village and past Samye Ling etc.
