In 1990 Trish spent a six-month sabbatical at Samye Ling which included a three month retreat. At the end of the retreat, Akong Rinpoche directed Trish to start a Tara Rokpa group in Nairobi, Kenya.

Thereafter, Trish became known as the Tara Rokpa therapist for Africa, working in collaboration with visiting therapists from the UK, Ireland and Germany. In addition to Kenya, Trish established Tara Rokpa groups in Malawi, Botswana and South Africa.
