CHANGES TO EXISTING BOOKINGS

Once a booking is made only reception can make changes, if you already have a booking and wish to cancel, amend, extend or move a booking to another date please email reception@samyeling.org, please do not make extra bookings.

When booking a twin room please put both names in the "Full guest name" box separated by a space.

Booking a stay at Samye Ling

A:

You may book to stay with or without attending a course - though please be aware course times will be busy and have less availability.

We require 24hrs notice for bookings, booking for the current day closes at 9am, after 9am you may book for the next day onward only.

Attending a course without staying at Samye Ling

A:

If you have alternative accommodation locally you may book to attend a course, with meals, without booking accommodation, select the No Accommodation room type on the booking system after you have set your dates and number of nights.

The room type I want is not showing

A:

If an accommodation type does not show on the system, it means that type is not available for the given date and number of nights you entered, either book another accommodation type and add a note in the Booking Request box to be moved when a cancellation occurs or keep checking back to see if there have been any cancellations.

If you cannot find the accommodation you want you could try the local accommodation listed here and then make a booking for No Accommodation on the booking system to book your meals and any courses.

Children or Pets

We regret that we are unable to accommodate children or pets overnight, for local accommodation please click here then make a booking for the No Accommodation room type to book meals and courses.

Overnight guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by or have written permission from a parent or guardian. The minimum age for overnight guests is 16 years, please inform us in advance if you are bringing anyone under 18.

How do I book a course

A:

Once you have selected your room type the next screen is the "Additional Extras", only internal courses can be booked with us, external courses such as the Mindfulness courses are booked with the relevant party, see the full course page for details.

Remember you must select the course in "Additional Extras", otherwise you are not booked onto the course. To book a course, please enter the number of people attending in the box you will see to the right hand side of the course you want to book place(s) on.

If you are not staying overnight in Samye Ling but wish to attend a course please use this booking system and select the "No Accommodation" room type to book the course and your meals.

We regret we do not operate waiting lists for courses. However, as cancellations occur, the course will become available to book online please check back regularly.

When and how do I pay for a booking

A:

Full payment is due on arrival either by cash or any of the following cards; Visa Debit/Credit/Delta, Maestro/Switch, Mastercard Credit/Debit - no charges.

We do not take online payments, if you receive any communication purporting to have come from us which asks for payment for a booking please ignore it.

When do I check In/Out

A:

Check in time is from 1.30pm on the day of arrival, and rooms are not available until after 1.30pm.

If you wish to arrive early and take lunch with us please let us know at least 24 hours in advance by sending an email to reception@samyeling.org. Lunch is served at 12.30pm till 1pm.

Checking out: rooms must be empty for our cleaners and keys returned by 11am on the day of departure.

What do I do if I am arriving after reception is closed

A:

If Reception is closed when you arrive, a note will be left on the Reception door with your room location and number. If your room has a lock the door will be left unlocked and you may collect the key from reception when you check in the following morning. For security reasons we cannot leave your room key out.

If you lock yourself out by accident please contact Ian in Room 1 in the Monks Cabin (behind the Tea Rooms).

Please check in, settle your room bill and collect your room key from Reception at 9am the next morning.

Please note that the evening meal is served at 6pm - 6.45pm, you may wish to stop en-route for something to eat if arriving after that time.

Which meals are included

A:

All accommodation prices include meals.


The first meal is the evening meal on the day of arrival. The booking then includes all meals up to lunch on the day of departure. If you wish to take lunch on the day of arrival you must book in advance and there will be a charge.

Please be aware we offer vegetarian food and use eggs and dairy products; we regret we can not cater for special diets.

Breakfast usually consists of fresh fruits, non-dairy porridge, cereals, toast and spreads. For lunch the main dish will vary but there are vegetables, rice and salad with a pudding which may be fresh fruit. The evening meal is soup, bread and spreads.

Camping and Campervans

A:

You are welcome to book a tent or camper van space and then bring your own tent or camper van to Samye Ling but please be aware that we have no dedicated facilities for this type of accommodation.

Tent and Campervan pitches are per person, so if you have more than one person in the tent or campervan then you must book one pitch per person.

The five golden rules

To show respect for ourselves and others and to protect Samye Ling as a sacred space, Abbot, Choje Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche requests all who visit and stay here to follow these rules:

1. To protect life and refrain from killing.
2. To respect other's property and refrain from stealing.
3. To speak the truth and refrain from lying.
4. To embrace health and refrain from intoxicants.
5. To respect others and refrain from harmful sexual activity.

Useful things to bring

A:

Useful things to bring

  • Essential: indoor slippers, warm clothing, waterproofs, shower towel, good outdoor shoes, earplugs (if you intend to stay in a shared dormitory!) and cash if you intend to make small purchases.
  • A small hand towel is provided for non-camping guests use, bring a larger towel if you prefer.
  • Coffee and/or water bottle for your personal use.
  • Summer visitors do need midge repellent and we recommend 'Smidge' (http://midgeforecast.co.uk/smidge/about-smidge)
  • Not essential but useful: Torch, flask, alarm clock.
  • If camping please bring adequate bedding; blankets, pillows, sleeping bags and towels.
  • If you're visiting from overseas please remember to bring a travel adaptor to power your devices
  • Cash: since we are 17 miles from the nearest cash point, please make sure you have enough cash for any local travel (bus or taxi) and use of the payphone. You can pay for your accommodation, purchases in the Tearoom and Shop with debit or credit cards.
  • Sufficient fuel in your vehicle: once again, since we are 17 miles from the nearest petrol station, and keep no petrol on site, we recommend you make sure you have enough fuel for the trip back.
